Athens 2004 Olympic & Paralympic Games
Executive Producer-Sport Presentation
With less than a year to go until the Opening Ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games Christy’s mind was not on Athens but rather Los Angeles. She was in the middle of moving back there from New York when she received an unexpected phone call from Martin Simitsek, the Chief Operating Officer of the Athens 2004 Organizing Committee. “When can you come? Today or yesterday?,” he had said. His request that she come to Athens to take on the Executive Producer, Sport Presentation role as soon as possible meant delaying Los Angeles and quickly relocating to Athens just 225 days prior to the Olympic cauldron being lit. No stranger to hard work, Christy embraced the challenge of planning and delivering Sport Presentation for 35 competition venues and 28 sports for the Olympic Games as well as 20 competition venues and 19 sports for the Paralympic Games, within an extremely compressed timeline. The opportunity and challenge in Athens highlights Christy’s flexibility to move between summer and winter sport, from America to anywhere in the world, and continue to deliver world class sport production to athletes and spectators alike. Epilogue: Christy finished unpacking in Los Angeles in late 2004, completely uninterrupted by organizing committee COO phone calls.
